At a special meeting held on October 27, the Board of Fire Commissioners approved the actual budget for 2015. The budget complies with the state’s tax cap legislation while projecting nearly $800,000 in savings by repaying the bond on the new firehouse in 15 years instead of 21 years. Voters approved that bond in a previous referendum.
The Board also appointed a Board of Elections for the Annual Fire District Election to be held on December 9, 2014. Polls will be open from 5pm until 9pm at the Westmere Fire House. Voters will be asked to vote for a Fire Commissioner to serve a 5-year term. The current incumbent, Commissioner Sean Maguire, has decided not to seek another term.
