Annual Election Results, 2014

District Treasurer and Volunteer Firefighter Brandon Madigan was elected to the Board of Fire Commissioners for a five-year term at the Annual Election held on December 9, 2014.  Commissioner-elect Madigan will leave the position of District Treasurer position join to the Board on January 1, 2015.  Mr. Madigan replaces Commissioner Sean Maguire who did not seek re-election this year.

The Board of Fire Commissioners is made up of five individuals.  Commissioners must be resident electors of the Fire District and serve a term of five years.  Elections are held annually on the second Tuesday of December.  Resident electors interested in serving may file his or her name with the Secretary of the Fire District no later than 20 days prior to an election, per state law.  The next annual election will be conducted on December 8, 2015.

LEGAL NOTICE
ANNUAL ELECTION OF THE WESTMERE FIRE DISTRICT
On December 9, 2014

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Annual Election of the Westmere Fire District will take place on December 9, 2014 between the hours of 5:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. at the Westmere Fire House located at 1741 Western Avenue, Albany NY 12203, for the purpose of electing one Commissioner for a five (5) year term, commencing January 1, 2015 and ending December 31, 2019.  Qualified voters must have been residents of the Westmere Fire District on or before November 9, 2014.  All voters registered with the Albany County Board of Elections on or before November 17, 2014 shall be eligible to vote.

Candidates for District Office shall have filed their names with the Secretary of the Westmere Fire District, at the District office located at 1741 Western Avenue, Albany NY 12203, no later than twenty days before the election, November 19, 2014.

Budget for 2015 adopted, stays within the Tax Cap; Board of Elections appointed

At a special meeting held on October 27, the Board of Fire Commissioners approved the actual budget for 2015.  The budget complies with the state’s tax cap legislation while projecting nearly $800,000 in savings by repaying the bond on the new firehouse in 15 years instead of 21 years.  Voters approved that bond in a previous referendum.

The Board also appointed a Board of Elections for the Annual Fire District Election to be held on December 9, 2014.  Polls will be open from 5pm until 9pm at the Westmere Fire House.  Voters will be asked to vote for a Fire Commissioner to serve a 5-year term.  The current incumbent, Commissioner Sean Maguire, has decided not to seek another term.

Special Meeting, 10/27/2014

A Special Meeting of the Board of Fire Commissioners will be held on Monday 10/27/2014 at 6:15pm at 1741 Western Ave, Guilderland. The purpose of the meeting is to appoint a Board of Elections, review the 2015 Proposed Budget, and to take up any other matters which may come before the Board.

Candidates, Board of Fire Commissioners

On December 9th, 2014,  the Westmere Fire District will conduct its annual election where Fire District residents elect a member of the Board of Fire Commissioners for a five-year term.

Individuals interested in running as a candidate for Fire Commissioner shall have filed his or her name with the Secretary of the Westmere Fire District no later than twenty days before the election, or by November 19, 2014 , per Tow Law §176(7).  Please notify the District Secretary in writing of intent to run for office by mail or in person at the Fire District office located at 1741 Western Avenue, Albany, NY 12203.

Open House, 10/8 and 10/11

The Westmere Fire Department will host two open house events during October as part of Fire Prevention Month. Please join us on Wednesday October 8th from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. or on Saturday October 11 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. This is a great opportunity to find out how to become a volunteer firefighter in your community.

Special Meetings, 9/25/14 and 9/30/14

A Special Meeting of the Board of Fire Commissioners will be held on Thursday 9/25/2014 at 6:30pm at 1741 Western Ave, Guilderland. The purpose of the meeting is develop the 2015 Annual Budget.

If necessary, an additional Special Meeting will be held on Tuesday 9/30/2014 at 6:30pm at 1741 Western Ave, Guilderland to adopt the proposed 2015 Annual Budget.

Both meetings may also consider other business which may be brought before the Board.
